Harmful and Sexually Explicit Online Material
-
Around 88% of scenes in free-to-access online porn contain physical aggression (e.g. slapping, choking, gagging).
We educate about the harms of online pornography and how it can shape unrealistic and harmful perceptions about sex, consent, and relationships.
Evidence shows that exposure to pornography can influence expectations, particularly around power, gender roles, and aggression, with some young people reporting pressure to imitate what they see. This includes the normalisation of harmful behaviours, highlighting the need for open, informed education.
Our sessions create space for honest, non-judgmental discussion, helping young people critically understand these influences and build safer, empowered approaches to relationships and sex.

Sexually charged content is increasingly accessible to young people through mainstream social media platforms, where algorithms and sharing features can expose them to explicit material both intentionally and unexpectedly.
This early and repeated exposure can shape attitudes towards sex, relationships, and body image.
Our education addresses this directly, helping young people understand how this content reaches them, question what they see, and develop the confidence to navigate online spaces more safely and critically.
“Around 40% of young people report first encountering strangulation through pornography, with 43% of sexually active 16–17-year-olds experiencing it in real life.”
